Letter to William Philips [manuscript], 1824 October 29.

Hunter, Philadelphia, writes to Philips, London, regarding his travels throughout the United States including a visit to Monticello to see Thomas Jefferson whom he finds is in good health and still riding horseback. Hunter goes on to describe a "falling spring" in the Allegheny Mountains, the Great Union [Erie] Canal which he predicts will benefit New York City immensely, and a destructive flood on the Missouri River.
